Planning a family vacation can seem a little daunting. Trying to pick that one location that offers something for everyone without breaking the bank is tough. Our family has found Great Wolf Lodge – Concord to be the answer to our resort style family getaway dilemma.
Why Great Wolf Lodge? Coming from the Triangle, getting to Great Wolf Lodge in Concord is relatively quick and easy. It should only take about 2 and a half hours to get there. That’s just enough time for the kids to eat something, watch a movie, make one bathroom stop and then you’re there! The directions to GWL Concord are pretty simple which makes for an easy drive.
The suites at Great Wolf Lodge are great. Having traveled a fair amount both on my own and with my kids, it is easy to see how GWL keeps family as their number one priority. With several different room options, you are sure to find one that fits the size of your family and your budget. I have personally tested out 3 different room styles at the Concord location and don’t have any complaints about any of them. Every room (at all Great Wolf Lodge locations) comes with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and waterpark admission passes. We actually stayed in the kid kamp suite on our last trip and I think it is my new favorite. There is a small area with bunk beds, a TV, and awesome murals painted on the wall. There is no door to officially close this area off, but it was separated from the main room enough that we could watch TV and move around after the kids were in bed. Usually in hotel rooms we’re pretty much on lights out lockdown after bedtime.
Waterpark passes are included in your room rate. And the waterpark is AMAZING! There is something there for every adrenaline level. I have spent quite a bit of time in the kiddie pool. With stationary, water squirting jet skis, and small slides, it is a hit for younger children. In Concord, you will also find a wave pool, some amazing body slides and for those looking for a little more heartstopping fun, the Howlin’ Tornado™, a six-story funnel slide. Upon entering the park, children are issued color coded bands so everyone knows what is safe for their size.
Great Wolf Lodge is so much more than just a waterpark. With an aracade, putt putt course (seasonal), storytimes, a 4D theater experience, enchanting MagiQuest journeys, and more, there is something fun to do all day (and even into the night) long. One of our absolute favorites is Ten Paw Alley, a bowling alley designed with kids of all ages in mind. I even saw a few couples playing on their own. Ten Paw Alley is actually one of the things that makes Great Wolf Lodge Concord special since it’s not brand wide. I also love that Concord Mills is just down the road so you can shop for some great deals on your trip.
The support staff at Great Wolf Lodge has always been friendly and helpful when I’m planning my own family trips. I definitely recommend contacting them with any questions or concerns. And like they say, if you head to Great Wolf Lodge, you’ll have a howling good time!
