There are A LOT of Valentine’s Day haters out there… and I am NOT one of them. I am totally in favor of a day that reminds you to tell those you love how you feel. Too often we forget in the hustle and bustle of our everyday “important” things to just say “I love you.” I like Valentine’s Day… I’ll even go so far as to say I LOVE it!
Here’s where it does get a little cheesy though. I do not love Valentine’s gifts in the form of trinkety junk that inevitably ends up in the trash. I don’t need bright red teddy bears, cupid monkeys with sticky heart darts, or dinosaurs that poop candy hearts. A Valentine’s gift only needs to say “I was thinking of you and really care.” That’s all that is necessary. You do NOT need to break the bank to buy the perfect gift. Valentine’s Day, the day of love, by definition, means as long as it comes from the heart… it’s perfect!
What does all of this have to do with helping others? Well, today I opened my inbox to find a FANTASTIC Valentine’s gift idea from the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Give Hearts for Hunger. Make a donation to the Food Bank in honor of a loved one. Then, send them a special Hearts for Hunger ecard or print out the exclusive Hearts for Hunger Honor Slip to insert into your own greeting card.
I know so many of you donated to amazing causes throughout the holidays, and that seems like it was just yesterday. But, there are still some awfully cold nights happening out there and 77% of those who use the Food Bank have had to ask themselves whether to pay for their utilities (heat bill) or their food. Now you can do something to help them out. Don’t forget, the Food Bank is also EXTREMELY efficient with your money. For every dollar you donate, 97 cents of that goes directly to food and food programs.
Now is your time to spread the love with the perfect Valentine’s Gift: Hearts for Hunger.
