This winter I finally caved in and wore leggings, out in public, like a pair of nice pants. And it was awesome. When done correctly, wearing leggings is like the trendy fashionable alternative to yoga pants. Leggings, a long sweater, big socks, and boots. Perfect when it’s cold out, but what do I do now?!?
I turned to my friends at KatieLeigh for help. They gave me a pair of leggings and some fashion tips. How do you jump on the legging bandwagon (even if it’s a little late) and wear them in the Springtime? Here are 3 ideas for you.
3 Ways to Wear Leggings in Spring
Spring Scarf and Light Shoes
Take an outfit that you might have worn through the winter and spring it up. Replace your boots with neutral colored flats and add a spring scarf. This outfit features a dolman shirt from KatieLeigh and a spring scarf. (There is an under tank from Target that is a GREAT leggings accessory. Ensures you follow the “booty covered rule” of wearing leggings like pants.)
Bright Tunics and Sandals
Bright colors automatically help transition your look into spring. Take your favorite leggings, add a brightly colored tunic, toss on some sandals, and you are ready to go. Thin shirts are great because you can layer under them when it’s still chilly, or wear a tank underneath and roll the sleeves up when it’s warm.
Denim it Up
Denim dresses and denim shirts have been making a comeback for a few seasons now, but are pretty mainstream and easy to find. An oversized shirt or belted dress go perfectly with leggings during the in between weather days of spring. My husband might have said I looked like I was ready to meet Kelly and Jessie at The Max with this on, but who cares? I LOVE this outfit. In this picture I even dressed my denim up with a long necklace I picked up from KatieLeigh last year. A small way to add a lot to any outfit.
KatieLeigh kicked 2015 off by introducing apparel to their affordable and fashionable online boutique. The dolman top ($17.95) and leggings ($12.95) are both from their line. The leggings do run a little small, but actually have some extra booty seams on the rear. If you’ve ever had leggings droop in the back, this takes care of that problem. It does mean you really want to wear your long shirts, but again one of my rules for wearing leggings is having your rear covered up so that’s not a problem. The best part is since they don’t droop down in the back, you won’t be tugging on your leggings all day!
